Bundoran Live Festival 2008

Bundoran, Co Donegal, will become a hive of activity when Meatloaf, Shayne Ward and Chris De Burgh come to the sea-side town. (How’s that for variety?)

A purpose built marquee will be erected in the Seafront Carpark, Astoria Road in Bundoran to host the event.

Tuesday July, 15th
Meat Loaf
Tickets €76.25 incl booking fee

Thursday, July 17th
Shayne Ward
Tickets €54.30 incl booking fee

Saturday, July 19th
Chris De Burgh
Tickets €59.80 incl booking fee

    were the romours true ?? was meatloaf not happy with the venue as well as his accomadition ??

    Happened to be in a hotel this evening in Bundoran, meeting relatives for a meal when the news filtered through that the acoustics were not up to scratch for “Meatloaf”
    Met several aquaintences very disappointed having travelled 50+ miles,organising babysitters+++++to attend the concert.
    Money refund cannot compensate the disappointment.
    What was the genuine excuse or reason?

    I wish to express my outrage at the fact that the meatloaf concern due to take place last night Tuesday the 15/07/2008 was cancelled at such short notice. My husband and myself had booked time off work and booked accomadation at great expense at peak season, not to mention the distance we travelled for this concern to arrive and find out it would not be taking place. I would fully expect to be compensated for our losses.
    Lastly could you please confirm if the meatloaf concern is taking place tonight Wednesday the 16/07/2008.

    Statement from the promoters:

    The concert in Bundoran, Donegal, Ireland featuring Meat Loaf has regrettably had to be postponed until tomorrow evening, Wednesday, July 16, due to technical production problems with the local site. Meat Loaf is present at the venue, ready and willing to perform, but unfortunately some important local production issues have to be resolved.

    All tickets will be honored tomorrow and if any ticket holder is unable to attend the ticket money will be refunded at the point of sale. The organizers apologize for this postponement but we are delighted that Meat Loaf has kindly agreed to perform for us all tomorrow.

    went to bundoran hopin to see meatloaf but found out that it was cancelled so very dissipointed like every one else.

    we had travelled from the north of ireland a almost2 hundred miles.

    I parked at the hotel venue there was a typed notice on the door sayin cancelled until next evening I then asked what looked like manager or propietier of hotel did he think he would be there the next night his reply was… NOW THRES A QUESTION…I CANNOT AWNSWER

    after some thought we phoned the hotel for rooms only to be told the rooms were 90euros per night per person sharing, I explained we needed 2 rooms and how much would that be after long silience she said we can only let the rooms on per person sharing @90 euros i then explained we needed seperate rooms as brother and sister ,and asked did they have 2 rooms she replied we have 6 empty rooms but we only let then per person sharing. I think at this point i realised the hotel knew there might be others loke our selves stranded and dreading a long drive home. which is what we had.not a friendly place.for me 2 days off work and the refund does not compensate. furious at way we were treated at hotel.while all the time they knew the big man was allready there

    I totally agree with everything that has been posted here so far, and now for my 50c worth…

    I found the show ‘dreadful’. Meatloafs’ singing on his cds’ are superb, but alas the real thing is cr@p.

    I was in a position to notice that 2 ambulances was on-site through out the event, well Meatloaf did say ‘if I’m going die, it may as well be ‘f***ing here’.

    One newspaper (The Irish Sun) ran a very small article and said, Meatloaf was great, but that he made no reference to why the concert was cancelled the previous night…..pity the reporter didn’t attend the concert, as he would have hear Meatloaf say “I saved your lives by not playing here last night, the tent was no where f***ing near ready”.

    I don’t think it was ready the second night either, the ‘waterfall’ that came from the leaky roof proved that. People who has paid an extravagant price for a ticket, got drenched while inside a marquee! If that wasn’t enough, some of the uprights were not even up straight.

    The water bomb waiting to go off, (in the form of a saging tent) just out from the stage, would have been disaster had it have burst.

    The circus does a better job of putting there tents up, than those who put the marquee up. At least they close it in all the way around. The tent was falling apart in several other places as weather conditions took its tole.

    I associate no blame of any kind to Meatloaf for pulling out, he done what anyone of us in that position would do. Well Done!

    Well now, if I had known a McEniff was anywhere within a hounds gowl of the organisers I would never have contemplated travelling 240 miles and paying over £100 for hotel accommodation for my daughter and myself, not to mention the cost of the Meatloaf tickets!!! McEniff hotels are shoddy in themselves and this fiasco is another shoddy example of how they treat customers!!!

    I suggest that anyone who has been inconvenienced and found themselves out of pocket by this carry on should strongly consider claiming compensation, as I am doing. The event organisers are to blame i.e. ‘Bundoran Live’.

    well enough about meatloaf myself an my 19 yr old daughter attended the shayne ward concert in the marquee last night he was just fantastic a pleasure to listen to an watch (WHEN I COULD SEE HIM )Unfortunatly we got stuck behind 3 bad mannered brats (girls) who seemed to think they were the only ones who had paid for their tickets as they stood on their chairs most of the night although I asked them at least 5 times to get down in the end security was called an that worked for a short while .left early as it was just no point.an autograph from shayne would help heal the annoyance.

    i have to say Meatloafs concert in Bundoran was brilliant, it was dissappointing the 1st night but these thing happens i was just glad it took place the second night seen him in the marquee in cork 3 weeks prior to bundoran and he was not half as good he put a cracker f a show on nd well done to those who made it happen

    Most certainly not. I was one of the many frozen ones at the concert.

    Don’t even start me on the amount of security there… ie. the lack of their presence.

    From looking around the web at other sites, I do think you are out numbered. The general reviews are that the concert was poor!

    But hey, everyone is entitled to their point of view.

    I would love 2 have went to the events but when it took Meatloaf himself 2 cancel for SAFETY concerns as the tent was not secure, its bad for the promoters, i.e, Hotelier – Brian McEniff sons Seanie (Holyrood Hotel) and Brian jr(Great Northern Hotel).

    I felt soo sorry for the people after travelling 2 Bundoran 2 face a task of searching for accommodation and stand around in the rain.

    Like most locals I felt safer in my car listening 2 the events rather than inside. I had a ticket but chickened out from going after reading some reviews. I heard Shayne Ward was the best, lets hope that any future festival promoters think about putting the customers first.

    Is is quite amazing that with all the land the McEniffs own in Bundoran they had to hold Bundoran Live in a public carpark, which is not sheltered and left people frozen. More was spent on advertising than on the actual event.

    Better planning into the event and people would have been satisfied or if the event was in the off-season at least.

    Bundoran is a beautiful town, just keep your eyes closed to the tacky amusements etc, theres lovely walks and coastline and of course our unique train.

    Yep, I blame the McEniffs. I contacted the Great Northern and asked to speak to one of the promoters and was told someone would ring me back which, of course, they haven’t. The person I spoke to initially seemed put out by my phone call and said “but Shayne Ward was brilliant” whatever that had to do with the Meatloaf being postponed because of the state of the place. My daughter and I had pre-booked our accommodation for the 15th (which was expensive enough)and couldn’t stay on for the 16th. There were a lot of people in the same position and leaving town, like us, the next morning. I hadn’t been in Bundoran for over 20 years and will never set foot in it again. When we arrived early in the day of the 15th and saw the blue and yellow marquee we thought it was a circus – too right it was!!

    I was also at the meat loaf concert, but heard word through the grape vine the big meat was out of his mind on drugs and drink and could not perform and there was nothing wrong with the marquee as there were no changes to it the following night

    yea not the first time the big man has pulled out of a concert over his concerns or maybe lack of them as would be, i think the count is running into the 30s at this stage, heard there was bother down in cork with him to and mcd arnt going to touch him again, so it will be the last of him in ireland, sure it will be no harm because hes not what he used to be

    I was at the concert with my camcorder and my brother Paul,I just taught the whole show was just BRILL, I also heard the rumour about him been out of his head, would have loved to have meet him as I would have had a chance of scoring with him if he was.

    I would just like to pass on and comment on the disappointment of the Shayne Ward concert. On receiving the tickets as a birthday gift i was very shocked that for paying over 50 euros each for the tickets that we were standing at the very back of the marquee behind all the seats. While waiting for him to come out we were so far back that we could barely see the stage. When he did appear onto the stage everyone stood up on the seats making it impossible to see him at all! and may i mention the staff didnt do anything about this..
    If i wanted to listen to him i would have bought his CD!
    The layout of the marquee combined with the poor security was absolutely shocking.
    I also felt bad for the kids who went to see him, they started to cry because there was no chance that they could see him over the crowd.
    By bringing this to attention i hope something can be done about this!

    Our sad excuse for a Town Council Chairman Sean McEniff (The Godfather/ Dictator)) wants to sue Meatloaf, well to state some facts,

    1. Did the concert tent have a licence – NO

    2 Did the bar have a Licence – NO

    Nothing was passed by the Council, the usual planning corruption going on in Bundoran. So, really Meatloaf can sue the ass of the McEniffs.

    Its a pity some bullies from Bundoran when falsely using my name in comment above cant spell properly i.e., (Patrica)
    NOTE: the only people off their heads were the organisers as nothing was ready and the whole event was a shambles.

    I can confirm meat was off his heads as I was the person who drove him from Sligo airport and he must have popped 40 tabs with a bottle of jack don’t know what the tabs were, my name is Peter steel and I was supply the transport
