Truth be told, it’s quite very poor considering the calibre of musicianship they had to work with. Definitely, a case of too many cooks. But it’s for CHARIDEEE innit? So it’s gonna sell right?

Swoon at the video.

Listen to a sample and pre-order it here.

Hope the chap picks up a bit soon and for the sake of the cause i hope the single does very well. To be honest when i heard the song i couldn’t help but think of that episode of the Simpsons during which Bart falls down a well and a load of celebrity’s sing a song of hope for him… Whatever happened to Timmy O’Toole, eh..?
    It’s quaint, it’s mushy, it’ll do the job…
    :)

actually brendan, it is a shit song with a severe case of ego over song-writing

I hope Brendan didn’t spend the full 6 months writing that open letter =(

It’s obvious a lot of thought went into it. Either that or he waited until Ronnie Drew actually died before he could vent his frustration.

In any event, it was supremely powerful… nearly worthy of Autobot leadership

It’s a very strongly-worded letter from someone claiming to offer “love and peace”, particularly as Niall’s appraisal was hardly harsh, just politely truthful.

Brendan, it’s a diabolical record, and all the ‘megastars’ responsible for making it know this. They all have careers to protect and none of them would dare commit their best work to a charity record – royalties maintain mansions in this game. Hence there’s an emotional blackmail at work, which forces the public to purchase sub-standard music for the sake of charity. I find this shameful; contribute to charity by all means but don’t support the egos of those who only want to be seen attaching their names to something “worthy”. Thankfully, Ronnie Drew rises above this and he will be remembered and honoured forever for his contribution to Irish music and its worldwide legacy; this so-called ‘tribute’ song will be forgotten very quickly indeed.

Either way, 10/10 to Brendan for sheer lettermanship.

I’m amazed to see such good grammer anywhere on the net to be honest.

Oh Leigh! So close! It’s “grammar”, not “grammer”. But I agree wholeheartedly. Johnnie, well said. It’s a shameful heap of chronic shit. Of course it is – The Corrs are involved! In fact, the entire Hot Press champagne-tent elite are in on the act. I wouldn’t be surprised if John Waters wrote the thing. Did everyone notice how they used the chorus from “Hallelujah”? Horrible. Ronnie Drew deserved better – they should have asked Liam Clancy to do a song instead, being a friend and contemporary, and a true musical legend.

Bono: a couple of words sir. Fuck. Off.

You guys know Brendan’s a journalist? It’s true, he’s probably got accreditation. This is SO gonna be written about! Mercy!

“…Oh Leigh! So close! It’s “grammar”, not “grammer”…”

    Aaaahh crap…

  • http://toofamoustogetfullydressed.blogspot.com Dave

I’d like to think that Hallelujah has raised the bar so high that no other melody is capable of stirring any sort of emotion anymore.

i wonder Brendan dug out this blog six months late though and secondly, did this siingle actually sell anything?

Brendan, you spelt ‘Britney’ wrong.. just sayin’, like. And what’s wrong with Britney, anyway? I’d rather listen to her ‘Toxic’ shite than that toxic shite..

You lost me when you called Niall a “shit shoveller”. This page his been a blur ever since. Where have you been all my life?

Small point: if these wealthy pop stars donated a load of their own “financial burden” to the Irish Cancer Society instead of claiming that a “star vehicle” charity single which will raise a few grand is a noble and valiant gesture, then I’m sure Ronnie wouldn’t have complained. I’m referring to the Corrs and U2 in particular.

  • http://toofamoustogetfullydressed.blogspot.com Dave

Did you just accuse us of over-analysing the song? Somewhere in the world, a kettle has taken great offence.

Commen sense is hardly PR sense, now is it?
