Cork X Southwest 2008

Cathy DaveySkibbereen once again throws open it’s Showground’s to the budding music festival Cork X Southwest on Saturday July 26th.

Now in its second year, Cork X Southwest will see an eclectic mix of independent Irish and international music talent, from rock to world, folk to dance.

The Main Stage returns and will feature among others Cathy Davey, Jape, Malian virtuoso guitarist Afel Bocoum and The Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir.

For dance music fans the Rula Bula Tent returns, headlined by Andrew Weatherall. Also featuring will be Cork’s very own Fish Go Deep, and Scribble/Bodytonic scratch maestro DJ Kormac.

If that all sounds too noisy for you, why not head over to the acoustic area. A new feature this year is the De Barra’s Sitting Room Sessions, hosted by the Clonakilty venue. Artists confirmed so far include John Spillane, Roesy, Preston Reed, Juno Falls and Thomas Truax.

Aside from the music there will be lots of extra nice touches to keep everyone’s attention. Local producers will provide delicious organic festival treats, local art will be on display and many fringe activities will be on offer – including the No Frontiers Dance Company and the Cinemamobile for some laid-back film watching.

Friday July 25 will also see the addition of a Festival Fringe, to kick start the weekend. Some of Skibbereen’s finest hostelries will host live performances from up and coming Irish bands.

Tickets go on sale on Wednesday June 4th and will cost €50. To get yours and see the full line up, check out Cork X Southwest. Tickets also available from selected local outlets.
