The Academy to revert to Spirit re-union night for former employee

The 4th of July sees the Academy formerly known as Spirit, hold a life saving fundraiser for their beloved ex Hostess Lana, who was tragically diagnosed with brain cancer in Nov 2007. The event aptly named ”Lana’s Night, Spirit Re-Union” will see all ex members of Spirit staff including top DJ’s and dancers reunite in the Academy for one big bash to raise the €15,000 needed to save the life of their former colleague and friend. The 23 year old Latvian who came to Ireland in 2003 to work as a hostess in Spirit is very much loved and the cash is badly needed.

DJs including Jane Kenny (Boys make better DJ’s) DJ John Power (Spin 103.8), and DJ Karen (The George) as well as all staff members and dancers have given their time on the night to help raise the money cover the cost of the life saving operation. Raffle prizes on the night include tickets to Oxegen kindly donated by MCD, Morrison Hotel break and much more.

In 2006 Lana began having bad headaches and fainting fits and decided to head back to Latvia for a checkup only to be diagnosed with a brain tumour. After the first operation was performed in March 2006, Lana was left paralysed and developed double meningitis. Despite grim prospects after a year and a half Lana learned to walk and talk again and even applied to an Irish college to study and was accepted only to begin experiencing the same symptoms all over again.

Lana was hospitalised again in Nov 2007 with a diagnosis of brain oedema after more operating and another course of rehabilitation Lana became worse while the tumour continued to grow. Latvian doctors are unable to help Lana anymore and her only hope of survival is a €15,000 operation that can be performed by the specialists of Central Russian Institute of Oncology in Moscow.

Tickets for the fundraiser are available at Ticketmaster or on the door on the night.

Christ that’s awful. Will buy a ticket even if I can’t make it. Fair play to all involved in organising it.
