RIP: Ronnie Drew (1934 – 2008)

Ireland’s traditional folk balladeer Ronnie Drew passed away in Dublin on Saturday. Much revered, Drew had been suffering from throat cancer since September 2006. The singer and musician with The Dubliners was aged 73. Remember him as he was – a talented and rare aul character.

    Sad news. So many of the greats bowing out this year, this summer even. Ronnie was great.

    I never thought I’d see the Clancy Brothers here. A pleasant surprise.
