MP3: Director – ‘Play Pretend’
Director have debuted the first fruits of their forthcoming second album due in early 2009. The band have just completed the recording of their currently untitled second album with U.S. producer Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Placebo, Liz Phair, Tortoise) in Los Angeles.
Speaking on the new album, Director’s frontman Michael Moloney says;
“You can expect a much harder sound than the first album but mixed with some of the softest, most delicate tracks we’ve ever recorded. I think we’ve captured more of the live essence of Director on this album. We’ve just released a song call ‘Play Pretend’ as a free download. It’s quite an intense track and an indication of the kind of rocky sound people can expect.”
‘Play Pretend’ is definitely a much more assured sound for the band and bears the hallmarks of an eminent production.

Is that a double bass pedal I hear?! Song is OK. That’s all though.
It’s catchy.. bit more identity to it than their older stuff anyway.
Yeah, it’s pretty good. I saw them at the weekend, and the new stuff sounded a bit more ‘full’ than the older material. Looking forward to the new album whenever it comes out..
Really nothing going for that song far as I can hear. There’s plenty of Irish bands who deserve way more attention than these guys get!
nope thats not a double bass pedal..just a drummer using his hands. not a bad tune . sounds like it cud have fallen off the first album.
