Pony Club – New Single and Whelans Show

Pony Club are set to release of their new single ‘What Are You Angry For?’ with a launch show in Whelans on Friday May 1st. Lead singer Mark Cullen tells the story behind the track:

“This song is a bit personal and relates to when I was signed to A&M Records. When the first album didn’t sell too well the A&R man thought it was down to the fact the lyrics were too agressive and confrontational so they asked me to attend an anger management session with a consultant in Harley Street. They thought this would make me write more ‘accessible’ songs and since I was young and naïve I attended the session.

“The consultant had listened to my previous record and after explaining my life story to the man , he decided that putting pen to paper and writing lyrics was indeed the best remedy for me, and he recommended that I continue doing this to the absolute dismay of A&M. At the time a lot of songwriters were taking prozac to see how it effected their work, I declined.”
