Ah we've heard the asiwyfa vs Adebisi comparisons for ages now, the truth is the two bands are nothing alike, but being great mates they play together a lot and the chemistry is great! Both bands have had a great year, it's going to get even better in December.

Which brings me to the article...Phil, it's funny that you can heap all these plaudits and praise on the band about their album and progress and even the 180 gigs so far, then whip it all back in one go by saying this one wasn't good enough for you. Even though there isn't a single song or moment you can pin down as lacking, other than a "heavy handed approach"- a punk band in a full house will always be an experience of a different intensity than an intimate one-off, and you know it. asiwyfa never sound the same twice and seem to draw their energy from the environment they're playing. Far from being accustomed to unfamilar faces, I think the band recognised all the people who've been at the Dublin gigs and all the extra friends they'd brought along.

I think you set your sights a little too high here. Alongside the eminent Shank, Mandela Hall will be gig of the year for this island's band, the homecoming celebration. There was nothing to suggest Club AC30 was in the running for such night, it was just a great gig to welcome them back to city and hear all the tunes and their new contenders cranking out before us. After 180 shows in a row there were no huge demands; just a good buzz to keep us going til December :)

ASIWYFA, for me, are hands down the best live band in Ireland right now. Not that I can claim to have seen them all, of course, but I have to agree with Hil, a country mile ahead of Adebisi...

i was at that gig and felt the complete opposite. it was my first time seeing asiwyfa and i felt let down considering how much they had been bigged up. they were good bu offered nothing that hadn't been done before unlike adebisi..

I was at that Adebisi Shank/ASIWYFA double-headliner in Twisted Pepper a couple of months back, and I definitely think ASIWYFA have the edge. Found Adebisi too masturbatory and they pushed 'we're mad, we are' card too much. ASIWYFA had more subtlety, texture and soul. Definitely in my top three of 2009, and in more than one category.
