It’s a little over half way through 2010 and probably a good time to take toll of the albums that have shaped our musical year thus far. Here is a countdown of the top 25 albums of the year as voted for by State’s esteemed team of writers…
25. Twin Sister – Color Your Life
Dreamy NYC five-piece who have been impressing left, right and centre.
24. Bonnie Prince Billy & the Cairo Gang – The Wonder Show of the World
Twenty albums in for Will Oldham and another collaboration, this time with Emmett Kelly’s Cairo Gang. Starkness and darkness ensues.
23. Hole – Nobody’s Daughter
“Enjoying this album requires a certain peace made with some classic rock moves.” … full review
22. MGMT – Congratulations
“This version of the band is the sound of MGMT being true to themselves.” … full review
21. Owen Pallett – Heartland
“This is an album of ambition tempered with a mature softness of touch, an album that never once seems to be trying too hard.” … full review

the national, not in the top 5?.Iit has to be one of the best albums of the last ten years. Gorrilaz’ latest album is also not very memorable imho!
joanna newsom should be higher, atleast top 3! – although, good choice with beach house
Beach House at number 1 – completely agree! Can’t wait to see them at the Picnic.
Where’d Robyn- Body Talk Pt 1? Janelle Monae should be no.1. not Beach House-sure they’ve cancelled e.p. now anyway they can get stuffed !

I was away on holidays and couldn’t vote but I would’ve tried to rig it so Gil Scott-Heron’s I’m New Here was number one.
Good to see Joanna Newsom so high. Funny The Gaslight Anthem and Broken Bells are missing.
