State's Top 25 albums of 2010 ... so far

5. Joanna Newsom – Have One On Me

Have One On Me is less of a statement than Ys, both in scope and content, but there’s no getting around the fact that it’s blooming with its own sense of confidence, as well as a very strong feminine presence.” … full review

4. Gorillaz – Plastic Beach

“Every tune has something to recommend it and doesn’t really sound like anyone else in the process. If you can reconcile yourself with the fact that sometimes, huge stars play bit parts, you’ll grow to love this weird and wonderful world.” … full review

3. Caribou – Swim

“Snaith’s ability to fuse his psychedelic, glistening voice into the mix of various samples he uses, makes a record that floats into an abyss of soulful melodies, backed by the repetitive thump of his electronic rhythms.” … full review

2. The Cast of Cheers – Chariot

“… surely set to become one of the bands of the year.” … live review

I was away on holidays and couldn’t vote but I would’ve tried to rig it so Gil Scott-Heron’s I’m New Here was number one.

Good to see Joanna Newsom so high. Funny The Gaslight Anthem and Broken Bells are missing.
