Fight Like Apes, Rodrigo y Gabriella and more for Rubyworks celebration

Next month will see the tenth birthday of Rubyworks Records, originally launched in 2002 with the release of Rodrigo y Gabriela’s debut album Re-Foc. Since then the label provided a home for Hothouse Flowers, Nigel Mooney, The Devlins, Aslan, Jerry Fish, Sinead O Connor, May Coughlan, Moving Hearts, Leya, Wallis Bird, Gavin Friday, Ryan Sheridan, Foy Vance and Vladimir.

Global sales of Rodrigo y Gabriela albums have now passed the 1,000,000 mark and Rubyworks has grown with addition of subsidiaries Model Citizen (home to Fight Like Apes, The MInutes and Funeral Suits), GottaRun (The Original Rudeboys) and recently through a merger with UK independent label Ark Recordings.

To celebrate, the label is hosting a series of three shows:

Sunday 26th August: Rodrigo y Gabriela (only Irish show this year), Ryan Sheridan, Wallis Bird and Josephine @ The Olympia Theatre (€25.90 plus fees)

Monday 27th August: Fight Like Apes (only Irish gig this year), The Minutes, Funeral Suits and Deap Vally (LA) @ Whelan’s ( €17.50 plus fees)

The first 100 fans through the door at both the above gigs will get a free limited edition Rubyworks 10th birthday album sampler.

Tuesday 28th August: Ruby Sessions special: Ruby Works artists @ Doyles, College Green, Dublin 2 (Simon Community charity donation, 9pm)
